|I received a call about a month ago from a mom who said she won a sweepstakes with Enfamil Rewards.
Me: Really? What does that mean?
Mom: Well we won $5,000 to have a photo session with anyone we wanted.
Me: Really? Wow! Thats a pretty cool prize!
Mom: I know! We really want to make the right decision on who we choose. Enfamil gave us a few names of children's photographers in Chicago, but we also did a bit of research on our own and found you. I really don't know what all goes into a photo session...this is all new to me.
So basically Enfamil sends the photographer they choose a check for $5,000 before the photo session takes place to pay for everything. First.. kudos to Enfamil for wanting to promote custom photography. They could have easily partnered up with say Canon and just gave the family a high priced digital camera.
So... anyways, I gave the mom some info on the best ages to have their child photographed, etc. Then she said she was going to research more photographers, and I thanked her, she thanked me, and we hung up. A few hours later, the Dad called. He didn't know his wife called earlier..and I told him she did. We ended up having a long conversation. This family REALLY wanted to make the right decision for them. I was in "Mom mode", and my exact words to him were.... " Listen, if I were in your shoes.. I would want to view all the best photographers in the area before making a decision. It is only the right thing to do. I would love to say.. yes.. choose me, but its only fair if you have a some of the best photographers work to look at, talk to, and compare..."
I proceeded to give him names and websites of some of the photog's in the area that I thought were great...some I knew personally, and for the photog's I knew I said they were awesome photographers AND people. I said between any of the names I gave you, you can't make a wrong decision. Quite honestly, I never expected to hear from them again. You never know if price is an issue....or what their plans were for their winnings...so I really wrote it all off.
Well a few days later, the Dad called, and said they really wanted me to do it. I was seriously floored. I didn't think I was even going to be choosen. He told me that they sent my website to over 25 of their friends and family as well...and they all said I was the one they should choose.
I met them recently, and they are the most fantastic family I've ever met. We instantly clicked, and got along well. The BEST part of this entire ordeal was after the photo session was over, the Father said to me.. " You are our photographer for life...."
Wow. They might not know that comment is probably one of the best comments a photographer can ever receive. (..well for me it is!!!)
Here are a few of their ADORABLE 10 month old "D"....
